Standing there, waiting for my couple, I wondered whether the cold would affect the session.

Instead, I recommended the Jardin des Tuileries. With its elegant fountains, tree-lined paths, Parisian green chairs, sculptures and breathtaking views stretching from the Louvre to Place de la Concorde, it's one of my favourite locations for family photography in Paris. It offers plenty of beautiful backdrops while remaining peaceful and easy to explore at a relaxed pace. She immediately loved the idea.

We met early in the morning at the Concorde entrance of the gardens. After introducing herself, Rime walked me towards an elderly couple waiting quietly near one of the fountains. Some of the most beautiful photographs are created on the mornings when everything seems to be working against you. It was just after 8:00 AM on a freezing December morning in Paris. The streets were still dark, the sky completely grey and a thick winter mist covered the city. The temperature had dropped below freezing overnight, making it one of those mornings when staying under a warm duvet feels far more appealing than stepping outside. My alarm had already rung several times. Like many people, I pressed the snooze button more than once, trying to convince myself that five more minutes would somehow make waking up easier. Eventually, reality won. A hot shower. A warm coat. A quick breakfast.
One large cup of coffee. And then, off to the Paris Metro.

Why Sunrise Is Worth It

The metro was already crowded with commuters beginning another working day. As I stood there surrounded by hundreds of sleepy Parisians, I couldn't help smiling to myself. I became self-employed to have more freedom... and here I am, travelling during rush hour just like everyone else."

Back home, I carefully began editing the gallery. Very quickly, something became obvious. These photographs weren't meant to be colourful.
They belonged in black and white. Without colour, every image became stronger. More elegant. More emotional. The mist added a dreamlike quality that reminded me of classic photographs of Paris from the 1920s and 1930s. Looking through the gallery, I couldn't help thinking of the timeless work of Robert Doisneau, whose poetic black-and-white photographs captured the romance and authenticity of Paris so beautifully.
Sometimes the weather writes part of the story. This was one of those days.

The following day, I delivered Maria and Andrew's gallery. A few moments later, my phone vibrated. Their message was wonderfully simple.

We started the session inside the charming Bistro Vivienne, tucked away within the gallery. The warm interior, vintage furniture and intimate atmosphere immediately created the feeling of an old Parisian film. Although the light was relatively low, it added depth and character to the portraits. Throughout the session, I gently guided Melanie with simple movements rather than complicated poses.We walked. We laughed.

Walking through its cobblestone streets, climbing its hidden staircases and passing colourful cafés, flower-covered façades and artisan bakeries feels like stepping into another era. As a Paris photographer, Montmartre has always been one of my favourite locations for a couple photoshoot in Paris. Unlike the Eiffel Tower, it isn't about one iconic landmark. It's about atmosphere. Every little street, every old doorway and every quiet corner tells its own story. That afternoon, Montmartre became the backdrop for another beautiful chapter.

A Relaxed Afternoon Close to Home

One of the things I love most about living in Paris is that sometimes work doesn't feel like work at all. Unlike many of my sunrise sessions that begin with an early alarm clock and a long metro journey across the city, this time I simply walked uphill from my apartment towards our meeting point.The neighbourhood was alive with its usual charm. The smell of freshly baked croissants floated through the streets. Local residents greeted one another outside cafés. Artists were opening their studios. Tourists wandered slowly through the narrow streets, discovering Montmartre for the first time. It's impossible to grow tired of this place. Every season reveals a different personality, every street offers a new perspective, and every photoshoot feels completely unique. There was something incredibly elegant about Alicia. Pregnancy seemed to enhance her natural grace rather than change it. She moved with confidence, smiled effortlessly and radiated the quiet happiness that often comes just before life is about to change forever.

Michael admitted that he wasn't particularly comfortable in front of the camera. Like many people, he thought he wasn't photogenic. Within a few minutes, however, he completely forgot about the photos. Instead of thinking about posing, he focused on Alicia. That's exactly when the most genuine photographs happened.

A Rainy Start… or So We Thought

When I woke up that morning, the weather looked far from promising. Dark clouds covered the Parisian sky, and from my apartment window it looked as though it had been raining. My first thought wasn't about photography. It was about my clients. Outdoor photoshoots always depend a little on the weather, and unlike sessions in covered passages such as Galerie Vivienne, our plan was to spend the morning wandering through the charming streets of Montmartre. I immediately sent a message to Judlyn. Should we postpone? Should we wait a little longer? Fortunately, Paris likes surprising us.

A Birthday Surprise Waiting in Montmartre

We had arranged to meet outside Anvers Metro Station, at the foot of Montmartre. Judlyn arrived with her two sisters. Jessy had absolutely no idea why they had travelled into Paris so early that morning. She simply believed they were spending a relaxing day together.
As soon as we met, everything became clear. "This is your birthday present." Her face completely changed. Surprise. Confusion. Excitement. Joy.

Within seconds she realised she was about to experience something she had secretly dreamed about for years. A professional photoshoot in Paris. Moments like these are one of my favourite parts of my job. Before taking a single photograph, I already knew this morning would become unforgettable.

Discovering Montmartre Together

Montmartre is one of my favourite neighbourhoods for portrait photography in Paris. Its narrow cobblestone streets, colourful cafés, flower-covered staircases and charming little squares create endless opportunities for natural portraits. Unlike more crowded tourist areas, Montmartre allows people to slow down. You don't simply visit it. You experience it. As we wandered through the neighbourhood, the rain disappeared completely.
The clouds softened the light beautifully, creating perfect conditions for photography. Sometimes photographers dream of bright sunshine.
Personally, I often prefer soft cloudy skies. They create elegant portraits with gentle, flattering light. That morning, the weather turned out to be our greatest ally.

A Natural in Front of the Camera

Many people tell me they feel nervous before their first photo session. Jessy wasn't one of them. The camera seemed to love her immediately.

Although they lived in the Paris suburbs, they admitted they rarely had the opportunity to truly explore the city. Like many people who live nearby, they often forgot to enjoy everything Paris has to offer. Together we wandered through quiet streets, admired hidden corners, stopped outside beautiful cafés and discovered parts of Montmartre they had never noticed before. The session became much more than photography. It became a beautiful walk. A family outing. A celebration. A chance to slow down and simply enjoy being together.

The Best Birthday Gift Isn't Something You Buy

One of the things I love most about photography is that it transforms ordinary moments into lifelong memories. Years from now, Jessy probably won't remember exactly what she received for her birthday that year. But I'm almost certain she'll remember walking through Montmartre with her sisters.
