The streets were still dark, the sky completely grey and a thick winter mist covered the city. The temperature had dropped below freezing overnight, making it one of those mornings when staying under a warm duvet feels far more appealing than stepping outside. My alarm had already rung several times. Like many people, I pressed the snooze button more than once, trying to convince myself that five more minutes would somehow make waking up easier. Eventually, reality won. A hot shower. A warm coat. A quick breakfast.
One large cup of coffee. And then, off to the Paris Metro.

The metro was already crowded with commuters beginning another working day. As I stood there surrounded by hundreds of sleepy Parisians, I couldn't help smiling to myself. I became self-employed to have more freedom... and here I am, travelling during rush hour just like everyone else."

A Timeless Black and White Collection
Back home, I carefully began editing the gallery. Very quickly, something became obvious. These photographs weren't meant to be colourful.
They belonged in black and white. Without colour, every image became stronger. More elegant. More emotional. The mist added a dreamlike quality that reminded me of classic photographs of Paris from the 1920s and 1930s. Looking through the gallery, I couldn't help thinking of the timeless work of Robert Doisneau, whose poetic black-and-white photographs captured the romance and authenticity of Paris so beautifully.
Sometimes the weather writes part of the story. This was one of those days.

The following day, I delivered Maria and Andrew's gallery. A few moments later, my phone vibrated. Their message was wonderfully simple.
"OMG!" That was it. No long review. No complicated explanation. Just two letters that said everything. Their joy confirmed what I had already felt while editing the photographs. The weather we had worried about had actually become one of the greatest strengths of the entire session.
