ANNIVERSARY PHOTOSHOOT IN PARIS : A MAGICAL WINTER MORNING WITH MARIA & ANDREW

Some of the most beautiful photographs are created on the mornings when everything seems to be working against you. It was just after 8:00 AM on a freezing December morning in Paris. The streets were still dark, the sky completely grey and a thick winter mist covered the city. The temperature had dropped below freezing overnight, making it one of those mornings when staying under a warm duvet feels far more appealing than stepping outside. My alarm had already rung several times. Like many people, I pressed the snooze button more than once, trying to convince myself that five more minutes would somehow make waking up easier. Eventually, reality won. A hot shower. A warm coat. A quick breakfast.
One large cup of coffee. And then, off to the Paris Metro.

Why Sunrise Is Worth It

The metro was already crowded with commuters beginning another working day. As I stood there surrounded by hundreds of sleepy Parisians, I couldn't help smiling to myself. I became self-employed to have more freedom... and here I am, travelling during rush hour just like everyone else."

People often ask why I recommend such early Paris photo sessions. The answer is simple. Because Paris belongs to photographers before the city wakes up. By 9:30 AM, the area around the Eiffel Tower becomes one of the busiest places in France. Tourists, buses and long queues quickly transform the atmosphere. At sunrise, however, everything feels different. The city is quieter. The light is softer. The experience becomes far more intimate. That's exactly why I always encourage couples to choose an early morning Eiffel Tower photoshoot, even during winter.

Celebrating Love in the City of Light

Maria and Andrew had travelled from the United States to celebrate something very special. Already happily married, they weren't looking for wedding photographs. They wanted to celebrate their anniversary in one of the most romantic cities in the world with a private couple photoshoot in Paris. For many American travellers, visiting Paris is a lifelong dream. Standing beneath the Eiffel Tower together was something they had imagined for years. Now they wanted photographs that would allow them to relive those memories long after returning home.

A Cold Morning, Warm Smiles

Maria arrived wearing elegant high heels and a beautiful dress despite the freezing temperatures. Andrew matched her perfectly, dressed with the same timeless elegance. Looking at them, you would never have guessed how cold it actually was. Although the thermometer showed temperatures below zero, they smiled from beginning to end. Every few minutes they wrapped themselves in warm coats before taking them off again for another series of photographs. I couldn't stop admiring their enthusiasm. They never complained. Not once. Instead, they laughed, held hands and fully embraced the experience. Their positive energy quickly made everyone forget about the cold.

When Paris Creates Its Own Magic

At first, I wasn't entirely convinced by the weather. The heavy mist completely hid the top of the Eiffel Tower. The light felt flat. The colours looked muted. As photographers, we naturally imagine perfect blue skies and golden sunshine. But photography often teaches us an important lesson.
Perfect conditions don't always create the most memorable images. Sometimes imperfect weather creates something even more beautiful.
As we continued walking around the Eiffel Tower, the fog slowly transformed the atmosphere. Paris suddenly felt mysterious.Timeless.
Almost cinematic. The soft winter light wrapped everything in a gentle glow, creating an atmosphere that simply cannot be recreated on a
sunny summer afternoon.

A Timeless Black and White Collection

Back home, I carefully began editing the gallery. Very quickly, something became obvious. These photographs weren't meant to be colourful.
They belonged in black and white. Without colour, every image became stronger. More elegant. More emotional. The mist added a dreamlike quality that reminded me of classic photographs of Paris from the 1920s and 1930s. Looking through the gallery, I couldn't help thinking of the timeless work of Robert Doisneau, whose poetic black-and-white photographs captured the romance and authenticity of Paris so beautifully.
Sometimes the weather writes part of the story. This was one of those days.

The Message Every Photographer Loves Receiving

The following day, I delivered Maria and Andrew's gallery. A few moments later, my phone vibrated. Their message was wonderfully simple.
"OMG!" That was it. No long review. No complicated explanation. Just two letters that said everything. Their joy confirmed what I had already felt while editing the photographs. The weather we had worried about had actually become one of the greatest strengths of the entire session.

Why Winter Is One of the Best Seasons for a Paris Photoshoot

Many travellers automatically choose spring or summer for a Paris photoshoot. Yet winter offers something completely different. Quieter streets. Soft natural light. Elegant coats and scarves. Morning mist. A peaceful Eiffel Tower. An intimate atmosphere that's impossible to find during the busiest months of the year. For couples celebrating an anniversary, honeymoon or engagement, winter often creates the most romantic photographs of all.
